ON THE MAT now online @ "The Sun"

WELL done to Queensland-based cartoonist Mister J (seen each month in America's Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine), who sent me the following e-mail:
"Yes, the rumours are true... And the gossips were right on the money for once.
The little cartoon that could, On The Mat, debuted today on The Sun newspaper's web site (www.thesun.co.uk/section/0,,2003560001,00.html).
It's been a couple of months coming, but the strip will now appear there on a weekly basis.
Or at least until such a time as The Sun readers realise they don't "get it", or The Sun editorship realises what a pain in the arse I am to deal with sometimes.
Either way... It is safe to assume my readership has expanded. I'm off to have a glass of wine with a hot blonde. Thank you all for your continued support,

Much love.
J."

That's fuggin' awesome news! If you want to see more of Mister J's non-wrestling meaty cartoon goodness, then head to http://www.modmove.com/galleries_MRJ.html.

Blue Demon rules!

FUCK Santo.

Blue Demon (April 24, 1922–December 16, 2000) - real name Alejandro Muñoz Moreno - is the muthafuckin' MAN! Look him up on wikipedia.org if you wanna know more about him and why he makes Santo look like such a suck-ass pussy.

Demon had his own comicbook, too, and it blew Santo's mag away. Here are a couple of samples.

If you can read Spanish, this comic and another one have been scanned in at http://www.losrudos.com/luchacomics.html (the site hasn't been updated for a few years, but the comics are still there).

And speaking of Spanish, I can't understand what's been written at http://lacuevadelalebrije.blogspot.com/ but it features illos of luchadors, including the one below (posted in September 2005). That's Blue Demon Jr, I do believe.

Blue Demon = Blue Demon Jr
Both > you

Santo!

This was mentioned in the March 26, 2007 Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“El Hijo del Santo will be travelling to coastal communities in both Mexico and the USA in his new role to raise consciousness on preserving the coastline. Santo and the US-based WildCoast organisation is campaigning to stop sea turtle consumption in Mexico, defend the California coastline and promote saving grey whales off the shore of Baja California. Educational comics entitled 'Santo vs. The Enemies Of The Sea' will be distributed to coastal communities. He’s also heading a petition in Mexico for lawmakers to create more protected marine zones.”

Someone send me a copy.........please?

WHY?: Why not?

THIS blog slowly but surely intends to document as many pro wrestling-themed comics (or comic strips) as possible. There are a LOT out there, trust me, and they're all worthy of discussion...even if I'm just gonna slag them off.

This project began in the pages of my zine Betty Paginated. I'll eventually post all my original articles on the subject as I find the time.

Meanwhile, you can buy back issues of BP from me by e-mailing me at danhelen@idx.com.au.

Also, feel free to check my other (non-wrestling) blog at http://bettypaginated.blogspot.com/ as well as the wrestling-themed blog of my journalistic tag team partner Doc Riot (http://docriot.blogspot.com/).
